Privateers 01.02: Regular Poker

“Wanna play cards?” asked Kara.

I considered it. “What games do you know?”

“Um, go fish?” She blushed a little.

“…Is that it?”

“So, I didn’t play cards much growing up…” she admitted.

“How about strip poker?” I joked.

She blushed harder and let out a nervous laugh. “Captain!”

“It wasn’t ‘Captain’ a couple seconds ago!”

“I mean…”

“I’m just kidding, Kara.” I smiled. “Anyway, we’re going to be out here for six weeks, I feel we’re entitled to drop the titles. So, go fish?”

She looked at me for a minute, and something changed. I wasn’t quite sure how. “We both know that game sucks,” she said, then grinned. “Teach me poker.”

“Really?” I was a little surprised.

“Sure.”

“Strip?”

“Let’s stick with regular poker for now.” She winked.

Playing cards in zero-gravity takes some ingenuity. An MRE box and a couple rubber bands later, we were playin’ poker. To my surprise, Kara happened to be pretty damn good at it once she figured out how to play.

Maybe it was a good thing we didn’t play strip poker…
