Room Without Windows
“Her sister said she loved to travel and eat. Pretty sure it was the eating that did her in.”
“Says here that she was ‘A Peaceful Activist’. Why, that’s bull! I ain’t never heard ‘peaceful’ used for teachers.”
“You mean, ‘I have never heard’. She was demanding, but fair. She said we would never leave her class as stupid as we came in. "
“Whatever. You one of her students, huh? I thought you were old! She musta been a dinosaur.”
“She wanted to be an astronaut. Saw a picture of her at the Space Center in Florida. Loved teaching us the constellations.”
" You ‘bout done puttin’ up them there pink stinkers? Them posies making me sneeze."
“She liked stargazer lilies. They were her favorites.”
“They smell like burnt cotton candy if you ask me. How you know she liked ’em?”
“She brought flowers into class when we were studying plants. Made that small, windowless room cheerful.”
“Got herself a tiny room without a view now.”
“But not without flowers,” he said as he placed a blossom in the casket.
