Congrats on writing the first Scary story! I’m not sure I quite “get it” however. That’s despite feeling like a geek myself. Is this a BSG reference? A programming reference? Otherwise, there’s tension and an eeriness to the piece that’s palpable. Please expound!
COBOL was a widely used programming language of the 70’s. It first appeared in 1959.
It is generally considered obsolete and a bit rubbish. Re-coding anything into COBOL is probably the wrong approach, although there are many, many applications out there that were written in COBOL many years ago and are still running quite happily.
In general usage, COBOL is something that C programmers use to scare their kids.
