Orchestral music began to play, heralding the arrival of greatness—a new world’s dawn. While others had created some kinds of artificial intelligence, they had created one that could access the accumulated digital knowledge of the human race. Even better, they had done it first.

Tom pushed back a stray lock of blonde hair. “It’s time. Do you want to do the honors?”

Richard dabbed sweat off his neck with his tie. “Yes. Thank you.”

Cradling the tablet that served as his gateway to the A.I. construct Richard typed out the first message.

Black King: Good morning, Joshua. How are you feeling?

There was a moment of hesitation where both men waited with bated breath for a response. When it came, they were not prepared for it at all.

“God . . . "

“I hope not. Maybe he’s just starting from the beginning, like the beginning beginning.”
