Ficly

From the shadows

The woman seemed to juggle the plastic bags and the pizza box with such ease, offering to help her wouldn’t have crossed anyone’s mind. Martin snorted when he saw the skinny, pointy faced lad approach the woman, holding his umbrella above her and talking quickly while holding his other hand out to help with the luggage. The rain fell on his neatly combed blond hair as he was struggling with the umbrella for a few moments, awkwardly, but charmingly.

Martin sat in his sedan on the other side of the street, casually drumming on the steering wheel with his fingers, smiling. “Oh, you should step away now, little boy, or you’re gonna have regrets…”

But Janet smiled, and stopped to cumbersomely disentangle one of her plastic bags from the others.

Martin had been following Janet for a while now, learning about her… way of doing things. Had the boy not been there, he would’ve had a moment to catch her alone… but no, he wouldn’t introduce himself just yet. He needed more. He needed to be absolutely sure.
