The Final Frontier
“Space, the final frontier”
The last unexplored territory left to the human race
As if we have explored every other aspect
Of the world beneath our feet
But what of the deepest caverns within the misty mountains
Or the darkest waters of the salty sea
They remain untouched by our greedy eyes
So far at least
But their perfection is as fragile as a butterfly wing
One touch of our greasy fingers will strip away
The beauty we so revere
In just a few centuries we have changed this world to suit us
Fitting a square into a circle with all the delicacy of a bull in a china shop
And yet we long to touch the untouched
To be the first to spoil every beauty we find
With the poison we spew in noxious clouds to stain the sky a sickly gray
Maybe we dream of being first in order to convince ourselves
That we are capable of more than the history we’re built from
We dream of being a captain of our fate
As so we search for a vessel to take us farther than anyone else before
Our very own Enterprise to pilot
