HQ (Superhero Black Hole, part 125)

That was the ceiling being not so much a ceiling, but rather a seemingly endless criss-crossing matrix of glowing blue circuits – or wires, or whatever – which occasionally sparked with flashes of blue light from deep within the depths of its structure.

It would have been pretty cool (in fact, it was cool)…if it wasn’t so goddamn weird and ever-so-slightly terrifying.

The second Zoe answered me. “It keeps us safe from unwelcome visitors.”

“And how does it do that, exactly?”

“Do you want me to get Al to answer that, so you can stand there for a multiple number of hours while he explains the mechanics and the physics of it all in meticulous detail? Or would you perhaps like to take my word for it?”

I glanced back at my Zoe. She knew what my answer would be.

“Option number two, please.”

“Good choice,” Zoe #2 said with a smirk.

Original Zoe piped up to ask an important question.
“So, is this like a safe house, or something?”

Zoe #2 replied:
“It’s that…but it’s also our very own headquarters.”
