Hivelings Pt. 25
Cassidy tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. Whenever she closed her eyes, her mind drifted to Ivan…
She groaned and sat up. For some reason, she heard yelling downstairs… She got out of bed and tiptoed down the stairs. What she saw in her living room terrified her.
Her mother was being devoured alive by a harpy, legs barely sticking out of its throat. It gulped, sending Jessy into its belly. It smiled, then turned to Cassidy and grinned.
“Ahhh…” It purred. “Dessert.”
Cassidy backed up against a wall, trying to escape the winged creature. It grinned, displaying rows of sharp teeth. “Was that your mother I ate?” it asked in a mocking tone. “Well, you’ll join her soon enough…”
Cassidy looked over her shoulder and saw the wall. She gulped, then saw a smashed window… A plan formed in her mind. “Come and get me then!” she yelled, confidence in her voice.
The harpy lunged. Cassidy dodged and took flight.
