I really enjoyed reading through this so far, and am definitely curious as to what one question they could ask that could possibly measure the entire human race with its answer.
The battle the protagonist has between his confidence and emotions makes me think his confidence won at first because he doesn’t speak, but his later thought ‘get on with it’ makes me think he has become frustrated and impatient. I can relate to that, as it seems audacious for this other race to think they can judge all humanity with one question asked to one person.
The protagonist is an interesting sort. Chosen for this impossible task, yet he remains confident. Is he getting annoyed? or are his hosts wearing him down to get to the his pure thoughts…
