Almost Home
Ms. Ecstatic stepped out of the in-flight lavatory and took her seat next to Mrs. Jones, who had been in Japan for the past several months. She was elated to be going home, as was apparent from her incorrigible smile. She couldn’t wait to see her family.
“Late as always,” Ms. Ecstatic said to the clouds outside the window. She sighed happily and closed her eyes.
Fear smirked slightly and turned his attention back to a small, nervous man clutching a briefcase.
A voice came over the intercom. “Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain. We’ll be experiencing some turbulence…”
“Oh! Well, that’s my cue!” said Ms. Ecstatic, brightly. She gathered her belongings and stepped into the aisle, then walked briskly to the back of the plane. “I’ll miss you all! Bye!” She smiled, opened the hatch, and jumped out.
A pale man with a black suit and tie stepped into the aisle and spoke. “Good afternoon, everyone. My name is Misfortune, and if you look through the window to your left, you’ll see my dear friend Disaster.”
