Everywhere and Nowhere
Maybe he fell too hard and loved her too easy. Yet here they were at a crossroads of their relationship. He wanted only to love her and only her this time. She wanted this too be easy, for him to understand, something that took him too long to realize and how he was going to pay for it. At that moment he felt butterflies flicker in his stomach.
She gently lifted her soft hand and rubbed it across his cheek like she had so many times before, but this was different, as she twirled the side of his hair, he realized a shocking reality, that this would be his last moment of pure bliss. He looked up at the clear, starry night and all the searching had come down to this cosmic moment or at least that is what he believed.
Then she leaned over, her lips near pressing his cheek and softly whispered to him.
“You don’t want me, you want the idea of me.”
He didn’t notice the clouds rolling in or feel the raindrops.
Not even as he was staring into his bathroom mirror, the sink overflowing, and she was nowhere.
