LOL, thanks. Not sure if it counts as a road sign, but it hit me this morning when I was getting ready for work and I had to put it out there. :-)

I like the way this story unfolds from the character rather than from a play on words or pun – I think that was the hard part of this challenge.

I love it!

I like it, though the title spoils the ending (yeah, I know it’s part of the challenge requirement).

Suggestion:
“It hit Simon like a thunderbolt.”

It would be awesome if you could use fire imagery instead of “thunderbolt”, like, “It hit Simon in a blaze” or something. (Not necessarily that, though; I bet you could come up with something more clever.)

Thunderbolts start a lot of forest fires.
