Love the idea of a modern gladiator. Society will never outgrow its bloodlust. A little curious as to why he’s being attacked, though.

The way I read it, he’s participating in back-alley brawls for cash now that the big venues won’t take him. As for real-life gladiators, looking at the state of the media today, I’d say we’re only a step away from giving our pro wrestlers and action movie stars real swords.

There. Sequeled and prequeled. My, this story is fun—thanks for writing it.

Where I got this story from:

I have played hours and hours of Unreal Tournament, and have watched a few documentaries about gladiators of ancient times in the past. The idea behind both is that they fight until they die, and most of them were convicts and instead of being killed off when they were caught, they were given a chance to fight and stay alive to please spectators. I thought, ‘What would UT be like with close combat weapons’ and this story came from what I thought a modern (or close future) gladiator would be like.

I thank Stovohobo for his sequels and prequels, but I don’t think these to be cannon for the story that I was going for. (and any prequels and sequels that come out of his own prequels/sequels.)

I just wanted to let the Ficly community know what I had in mind when I was writing this, since this seems to be so popular these days.
