Tee hee, “parabolic mirror, focusing that magical energy onto a single point in space.” From that point onward, you made the transition from fantastical fairy-tale into psychedelic sci-fi. Great :)

Originally, the glow was going to be generated directly by the herbs themselves, but then I realised that if this were so, replanting the last few herbs would be rather dangerous, as the device would already be starting to work. I added the moonlight thing after I’d nearly finished the story, to get myself out of that problem.

I hope that the incongruity between the precision of parabolic mirror manufacture and the imprecision of gardening provides a subtle touch of humour and adds to people’s enjoyment of the story.
