A Perfect Dinner

The garden was growing nicely. The herbs were so fragrant while she knelt in the warm earth, taking care to keep her new dress clean. Her mind drifted as recipes lazily whirrled about & she decided which herb would go with what. Rosemary? Perhaps. It was so earthy & lovely. A good, strong flavor. Thyme? That always went nicely with rosemary. Yes, perfect. She loved the smell when fresh herbs were heated, there was nothing quite like that wonderful odor. She planned out each course in her mind, the table setting, the flowers. Everything down to the last perfect detail. It was all going to be wonderful. Now to finish the cooking. She could smell the herbs from her garden as a lovely breeze fluttered in when the doorbell rang…

As he finished the main course, he sipped at wine she’d mulled & said what a wonderful cook she was, how delicious it all had been. Then a small gasp escaped his lips as he exhaled for the last time & the poison finally took effect.

She smiled sweetly & sighed, “Perfect.”
