Awesome story – I love your use of imagery, wondering the whole time who the protagonist is?

If it’s southern California, between the wind and the fire, there is no protagonist. :/

The protagonist is the wind.

Lovely and evocative. The pace and flow fit the protagonist, I thought. I especially liked the little romantic interlude with the lovers.
