Oh, but Buzz Aldrin’s story is sooo sad. He was older than Neil, but Neil was commander. Aldrin’s father was unkind about him being the second man on the moon. Buzz became an alcoholic.

Such a tragic life for a talented man.

Buzz Aldrin is who the MTV Video Music Award “Moonman” trophy is modeled after… but only because Neil Armstrong passed on it.

A very nice job telling it all (vast conspiracy theory and all) from his singular perspective. Felt very real and very personal.
Minor points: The string of adjectives ‘young tall dark handsome’ needs a comma or two in there somewhere. I get that you’re getting his name out there, but it felt odd for his wife to refer to him by his full name, and I think most people would have gotten the identity on just Buzz.
Minor bits aside, a very strong piece in terms of the psychology of the situation for this individual.

Okay, for some reason, this awesome piece of quick fiction (fiction?) is #1 on the active list, but my bout of rebellion is the featured fable.

I’m torn. I like your story, and disagree with the conspiracy. I’m half tempted to write a sequel or prequel that would change the lie into something else. Maybe Buzz could be a closet case.

Dark hillbilly How is it easier to believe Buzz Aldrin has sex with other men , than it is to believe the moon landings were fake? First of all if Buzz were a queen, he would have never let a little pretty boy like Nelly Neil Armstrong show him up. The queens i know would have tripped his ass coming out of space ship, and then walked over the top his showboat-in ass carrying an umbrella and a moon mission martini mixing kit. Now i know what you are thinking, the suits were white and may is the proper time to wear it (After easter before labor day) and no straight man knows that, but the moon boots removal all doubt. No self respecting homosexual would be caught dead in those outer space atrocities. So Buzz doesnt like the cck and we have never traveled beyond the Van Allen belt.

@MJY I thought this was a good storyline but I agree his wife could have poked him out of his reverie with just a pssst. Buzz. but I can also see that we use what we are familiar with.

I didn’t mean to anger you, Apoc. I know it is an emotionaly charged topic, but those of us who don’t believe everything they read in the paper or on phill plait’s bad astronomy, it also angers us. If it is a fact that the CIA, whose job it is to assist the president and senior government officials on matters of National security, spends over 20 Bliion a year on DISINFORMATION , then we have to question everything. I didnt meanto make you upset i was just trying to write a moon story, for stargazers challenge.

The space program of the 60’s and the lunar landings are some of the most beautiful memories I have. I have worked with educators from NASA and I was a Teacher-in-Space candidate when we lost Christa and all the other talented astronauts in the Challenger explosion. I have handled the moon rocks and watched the footage.
It was all quite real, the agony and the ecstacy of it. I know that may never convince those that think otherwise, but there it is.

While I liked this story; I do feel that it borders on libelous. I know some of the things in this story are true to some extent; but one thing I do know is that the assertion that the landing was all a big lie is completely without basis.

My own grandfather, Richard Jodry, was the lead working engineer on the J-2 engine, a revolutionary re-startable rocket that made breaking away from earth and breaking back away from the moon possible in one trip with limited resources. Grandpa actually had a J-2 in his garage for a while when my mom was an adolescent.

I’ve spent countless hours listening to “Buzz” and Co. complete the mission on the NASA tapes (by the way, it is really silly to spell it “N.A.S.A.”)

I liked it. Kind of a darker side of an already dark story.

Amazing. And sad. I love Buzz. I’ve seen him speak on several interviews and he seems like a genuinely nice guy. And you can see in his eyes he’s still in awe of what he helped accomplish.

I went with all these comments and decided to run with it and write a prequel. I don’t think I did the story justice by the style of writing, but I think you all may be happy with the plot :)

Well, I just loved it. I too join the ranks of those who detest the wretched lie cast by NASA, however I do believe in current spacial missions. I disagree to the VA belt comment. Apollo 11 is understandable, we were stuck in the race to reach the moon, but I doubt that NASA has faked every mission since. Especially after the moon video began to be questioned.
