The Handlebars of a Dilemma

“How could you do this to me?” Violet finally exploded. “Put me back in my own body at once!”

“I can’t ‘put you back,’ silly!” Rae said. “You’re already there. I just copied you. I could wipe your personality off the bike, like I did for Dad’s ‘nanny,’ but that would be like killing you.”

“What am I even supposed to do here?” Violet swerved around another pothole. “Why do you need a transforming robot scooter?”

“As a bodyguard.” Rae shrugged as best she could while still gripping the handlebars. “There are a lot of people out there who might want to hurt me ‘cuz of what Dad does. Look, I’d think you’d be happy about this. You don’t have to go to school anymore, you can just surf the net all day…”

“I’m not human anymore!” Violet said. “I’m not even me anymore, since there’s still a ‘me’ asleep in your room! I knew you were spoiled, Rae, but this really takes the cake!” She sighed. “You could at least have asked.”

Rae looked down. “I’m sorry. I just…well, I was scared you might say no.”
