Ficly

Smoke, Sanity, and Fireflies.

I watched as the smoke rings drifted in front of my face, forming a veil like cover over my eyes. I reached my hand outward, seemingly thinking that if I reached long enough I would soon feel the cloth like cloak.
After a few minutes, I gave up. It was like trying to grab air, or in my case, sanity.
I looked down at the glass jar in my lap, the yellow light from the fireflies casting a glow on my thighs. It seemed almost surreal, the lacey texture of the smoke mixed with the soft light.
“Are you alright?” Adelaide asked, interrupting my thoughts as she pushed her cigarette butt into the patchy brown grass
I turned to look at her, “No.”
She leaned into hug me, being careful not to knock over the jar. “Wanna tell me about it?”
“Im scared.” I said bluntly, my cold fingers tracing hearts into the smooth glass of the jar.
She paused for a second, as if she was confused.
“Of what?” her voice finally asked.
I turned to analyze her, the twisting feeling in my stomach coming back.
“Myself. Myself and my thoughts.”
