Perfect? if he is perfect, he’ll wait for ‘you’ to accept. But his asking right away seems less than perfect. He doesn’t care for your friend’s feelings at all, whom he was just dating. That’s pretty slimy. Your friend is going to be hurt, no matter if you tell them now or later, but hurt less if you are up front now. “hey, he just asked me out.” “that slimeball! he used me to get to you!” “maybe he did, but i always thought he was cute.” “you’re not going out with him!” “He wasn’t perfect for you, but what if he is for me? I need to think.” than at least they are warned of ‘your’ potential actions.
That’s my advice for this character. :) You write a very real piece.
