News Travels Fast

It was just a stack of pamphlets on a desk somewhere among the shelves in the Young Adult section.

A child picked one up, and brought it to his mother.
The mother’s eyes went wide and passed it on to another.
That woman gasped and went back for more pamphlets.
She tripped and the pamphlets went flying across the room.
A dozen were picked up and read and thrown back down.
Whispers and hisses began to fill the library.
Pamphlets were passed from hand to hand.
Those in Autobiographies section were listening.
The children running among the Juvenile Fiction shelves squealed at the mention of it.

One old man squinted at the pamphlet, called over the Librarian, pulled her close and whispered in her ear, “What does it mean by ‘Mayans predicted death of Twinkies?’”
