Ficly

Sharing The Love

Ahoy! Jason here. We’re working on many things here in Ficlyville, most of which are requests from authors like you. Yes, you! And you!

One of the items on my to-do list is to come up with the best possible means of allowing you all to share your creations with your friends, families, co-workers, fellow authors, and whomever else. So I pose to you, dear Ficly friends, this question:

What are you using to share things these days?

Facebook seems like an obvious answer. Same goes for Twitter. And email. But what other services are you using to share content? Or… how else are you sharing things online?

Let us know in the replies and we’ll use your feedback to help us make the best decisions for implementing the new feature.

Thanks!

Either through Myspace, Twitter, Facebook, Yahoo email or my own personal web page/forum for which I just paste URL’s
I’m an easy to please guy, give me a URL and I’ll paste it anywhere. :)

Now of course if you have a nifty little script that I can copy and paste which brings up a cute logo that links to the page, that would be cool. I’m all for flashy and bling.

facebook is the main one i think.

  • Lone Writer

I think its ironic that you used the word Ahoy. Considering you were Captain of the USS Ficly in certain Ficlets. :p]
    I use AIM.

  • Jason Garber

@Lone Writer: My choice of salutation was far from coincidental!

The power of positive thinking. When I write a story I think is particularly good I take a few moments to stare intently at the screen. During this time I direct my thoughts and considerable psychic energies towards those individuals whom I think might appreciate it. Basically, I am attempt to will them to find the particular work of fiction.

Personally, I think it’s very effective at getting the word out, so effective in fact that I invariably wind up feeling bitter and hut that so many people would ignore such a personal means of communication and fail to come read my story.

Although Positive thinking probably has the Tony Robbins crowd doing backflips and walking on hot coals, I think SMS Text Messages to be more effective (and reaffirming). Many of the cell providers in the US and Canada have…well, check out this site before I overexplain it… http://leedumond.com/blog/sending-sms-text-messages-from-your-application-free/

I have an account on LiveJournal. There are a lot of writers there, and it’s a blogging site that is not as well-known.

Not quite about Facebook sharing, but related: is there any way that the ficly posts posted to the Facebook ficly.com feed could have links to the original on-site ficlet embedded in them? A number of times I read a ficlet on Facebook and would like to follow it up, but there’s no obvious link to follow to get here.

We’re going to add a share on facebook link that should have the story snippet and the story’s URL on it. Not sure what Facebook’s going to do with it once we give it to them, but we’ll give them the correct info…

Hey what about the all-star page like the old site had?

  • Eloquent Mess {(LoA)}

I use twitter and facebook, but the main place I like to talk about my stuff is my website:

    http://eloquentmess.com/

I’ve got an RSS of my stories on the right-hand side of the page, along with my twitter feed.

  • LuckyBeaux

I have simply cut and pasted the URL onto my Facebook page and a link is nicely created with a logo pic and content. I also use Blogger, however I have not attempted to relate the two yet.

This is a terrific site, BTW…(applause and cheers)
to all who have resurected this literary genius idea…Thank you !

Twitter mostly, and Gtalk status, but I1m thinking about linking this with my blog. Can I do it via MyBlogLog?

facebook and twitter. If I want to share I share but sometimes I am content to just write and be on your awesome site because Kevin looks after us so well and of course so does thx while you have the mean job of behind the grubby curtain. Long live ficly.

  • Blythy

I would like to share my work with my family as a few of them are writers themselves. Facebook is not the best for this reason. E-mail has been the best option for myself. Possibly even a USB stick with more work saved on it.

  • Sam Ervin

Twitter would be the most useful, methinks. It spreads the word about stories, and that’s ultimately what Ficly is all about, no?

  • PorcelainDollface

Well, I never share my writing with anybody but the people here on ficly.
But if I were to I would say on blogs. <3

  • Fyora Cartagan

To be honest, I’ve actually used a forum site to talk about my ficlies more than anywhere else. It’s www.gaiaonline.com (yeah, I’m a nerd). It would be interesting if you could get them to make some sort of BBCode thing to where it will post the story in a quote box that is minimize-able in the post and has a link to the story itself. (As well as possibly its prequels/sequels? )

Or I share them in person, by pulling up the story on my laptop and showing it to people.
