Wow! I absolutely LOVE this! Wash and Zoe have a kid? Damn, I’d love it if that had happened! You’ve really nailed the distinctive voices of all the characters, original and new (the ‘new’ being the kid, obviously). Really fantastic! +))
Okay, I absolutely loved this. As Keane said, you nailed the characters of the show perfectly, and I can definitely see this situation on some future episode that will unfortunately never exist. I love that Jasmine poked Jayne in his “shooting eye.” Brilliant!
However, there’s some bits that don’t make much sense to me.
1) Jayne was chasing the kid with his gun drawn? I know he’s an ass, but this seems a bit much even for him. Personally, I think the last three words are unnecessary.
2) It is unclear who Mal is talking to after Jasmine giggles. Maybe use the space of the last three words of the piece to specify who he’s talking to. I thought he was talking to Wash at first and had to read the end of this a couple of times.
Enjoyable! One of the wonderful things about Firefly was its levity. Such a diverse cast of characters allowed for many moments like this where, invariably, Jayne got annoyed by someone.
Also…a kid would be quite likely for Wash and Zoe. If you remember, they discussed it in “Heart of Gold.”
Man…I’m starting to feel the need to pull out the bluerays and have me a little marathon!!!
I enjoyed this as well. Characters are pretty true to the source material, and it’s definitely got the right tone. Well done.
One change I would make though is to rearrange Jayne’s last line from “yeah, but for what?” to “yeah, but what for?” When I hear Adam Baldwin in my head saying the line, I hear “what for” more clearly than “for what.” But that’s just me.
