Back to the Future
There was no way to know so she did the only thing she could. She stepped into the kitchen and said, “Hello.”
The woman in the kitchen screamed, knocking over a hanging copper pot. “You scared the beans out of me!”
“Sorry.”
“You must be one of Willie’s little friends. You seen him? He’s not with those Lambert boys again is he?”
“No, um, I mean yes I did. I saw him at the cemetery. He’s alone.”
“He’d best get back soon if he knows what’s good for him.”
“Home? But-”
“If them horses ain’t fed, his Daddy’s gonna get him and get him good,” she said, squinting her eyes and smiling.
Overwhelmed, Sarah ran over to the woman and started sobbing in her arms. “I want to go home too,” she said between tears.
“My goodness! There’s no need to get so worked up. We’ll take you back home,” she said, pulling her away slightly so she could see her face. “Where are you from, dear?”
“Two thousand and ten,” Sarah said, tears streamed down her cheeks in steady streams. “I want to go back.”
