The Envelope Pt 2

Rainford might have uttered some words of thanks if he didn’t want to break the heels off her shoes more. He couldn’t say he hated her; she was risking her neck for him and she had some strong qualities about her that he wished his old partner had. But he couldn’t say he liked her either, mainly because he couldn’t really say that he liked anybody.

After watching her make her way back around the corner, he gripped the card and shoved it into his pocket then hurried back to the bus station. He would have walked back to his apartment if it weren’t for the wind. Nevertheless, he boarded and sat where he had been the past 3 weeks: in the back, by himself, with an unholy glare on his face.

He pulled the card out of his pocket. Mitzy’s Bakery? What kind of lead was this? He flipped it over.

Mitzy herself explains it all.

He sucked his teeth and put the card back in his pocket. Rainford couldn’t decide what he hated more: risky investigations or cupcakes.
