Configuration (Superhero Black Hole, part 105)

“Oh, well…”
I began that sentence thinking I knew exactly what words I would say next, but all of a sudden my scrambled egg brain wouldn’t agree with itself, so all that came out of my mouth was an elongated “…uuuuh”.

I then turned towards Al.
“I’ve got the feeling that there’s some insanely complex reason why we can’t use the In-Between to travel to the Future, but just so we’re clear: is there any reason why we can’t do that?”

“Would you prefer the simplest version of my answer,” asked Al evenly.

“That’d be swell,” replied Zoe.

“You cannot jump to the Future through that universe,” Al continued. “Letrodacta has intrisically configured this place to allow only herself to jump to any random point in time that she chooses. Any other time-traveller is restricted to their usual backwards jump.”

Zoe rolled her eyes. “Typical.”

And then that strange maestro of the subtle bombshells said in his monotone voice:
“But that is not to say that her universe does not induce some… side effects …”
