A similar idea entertained me in my childhood but it was instead what would occur if the world tipped upsides down completely (this was before the concept of gravity and the globe had educated me.) Nice little intro in the italics…good build up.
I really loved the layout of this. Writing is so much more interesting to read when the packaging is pretty so…awesome. You get five pencils from me. =) Abby x
1. I love how you mentioned the Foo Fighters, I think that makes this piece awesome but that’s me being a fan haha. whether you like them or not, you mentioning it is enough for me! 2. I love the “Picture this” scene that you mapped out, really creative. It would be insanely weird if something like that happened. When I think of this, I think of the movie Inception just because the kick and the part where Joseph Gordon-Levitt is fighting that guy on the ceilings and wall, yeah but that’s just a funny way of connecting things for me to picture!
@Abby – When you imagined the world tipping over completely, did you imagine you and everyone else were essentially skydiving in reverse, up into the sky and possibly into space? Cos I’ve had that imagining many times, too. (Picture this: a reverse sky-diving tea party. Like that bit in Mary Poppins, but weirder…) And as for that opening italic bit: I sort of referenced a structural layout from Chuck Palahniuk’s afterword for “Fight Club,” where he listed all the things that happened when the movie version came out by using “before” at the beginning of each sentence. (I’m a shameless rip-off, it must be said…) =P
@Infinity I am indeed a massive (both figuratively and literally) Foos fan. Really, it all started when I saw that video for “DOA” when I was a kid, because a) the music was awesome, and b) the video pretty much visualised something I had been imagining for years (albiet on a slightly smaller scale). So, I added that Foo reference in their honour. (MWAHAHAHAHAHA! It had to be done!) And well done for making an Inception reference in your comment, cos that makes YOU awesome, too. I think I’ve seen that flick about 6 or 7 times now, and every time, it still remains utterly brilliant… =P
Ah I do admire your honesty for owning up to the rip-off. And I did imagine the sliding off into space. But also, what would happen if suddenly all the ceilings were floors – a reversal of gravity if u will. We wouldn’t even be able to open doors. Kids think about weird stuff, eh =) x
More of a thought piece than a narrative, which is fine, just not what I was expecting. Reads nicely, a consistent voice as if we’re two friends sitting on the couch talking about random things.
