Waves

Depression, like the silent tidal wave,
Dark, coming to pull me under,
Drowning, choking me as I swim frantically,
Drowning, I can’t get to the surface in time,
Dying, can’t make it in time,
Urgent, suffocating the air is gone,
Crash, thrown upon the rocks like a rag doll,
Pain, I am broken and bleeding on the rocks,
Dying, once again the wave comes,
Splash, washes away the blood,
Blackness, blind as I look through the endless wave,
Gasping, fighting again for every breath,
Calm, sinking smoothly to the bottom,
Rest, unconscious on the sea floor,
Light, open my eyes to the sun,
Life, I made it through the night.

I wrote this back in High School. I admit, I got stuck trying to write something new for this challenge. But it came to mind when I thought of all the poetry I’d done involving emotion.

It seems amateur to me now, but maybe you’ll like it.
