it’s a stream of consciousness piece, that does a lot of telling us about things, instead of showing us. This is not a bad thing, it’s a style. Some people like it, some don’t. many sentences start with I, which is great for stream of consciousness, but some find it stylistically weak.
The plot you’ve described is similar to a series I’ve read here on ficly, similar, not the same. This story mixes in the I, Robot movie, at least I picture that one for reference, because there isn’t a description of it, as there shouldn’t be in a stream of consciousness piece. Is this any reason to rate it lower, sure, if it’s not your cup of tea, you will do so, it’s human nature. Is this any reason to call people names? No.
How do I feel? I don’t even get cyberpunk, so most of it is lost on me anyway! I think this is a nice look into the mind of a resentful sentient being and I’m glad I’m not its maker!
Quite abstract, and I’m not sure that it’s actually cyberpunk. That might be because of the length restriction however; there’s not much room for scene setting. As far as it goes, it reminds me of a Simpsons episode…
Oh amn have you ever seen ergo proxy, this reminds me of when one of the robot entourages gets a virus and becomes human. this is a good story Abstract.
The narrator seems to be waffling emotionally a bit much for someone who apparently has so much control over their aggressor. I think I want the character to be a bit more… machine-like, I suppose. But definitely a good starting point.
For a machine to experience sadness and to experience hatred towards them is a very interesting idea..but then for a machine to feel hatred towards something to the point of murder is a disturbing thought. The age we live in makes this more plausible.
Am I the only one who sees the Frankenstein parallels here? For me, it seemed like an update on the whole ‘shunned creation’ theme – a really good update, mind you! Bravo…
I love that the poor unwitting homeowner probably doesn’t even realize the zero-sum game he’s created. For him it’s probably just a matter of upgrading and replacing appliances, but (little does he know?) his life hangs in the balance.
