A Little at a Time [Magic Theory, Pt. 6]

One of the common misconceptions about magical practice is that one must kill an organism entirely, in order to extract its life force. This is untrue, and many practitioners consider the act of killing to be immoral and irresponsible.

One of The Healer’s revelations was the ability to collect small amounts of life from various organisms. Whether this be leaves from a tree, eggs or feathers from a hen, or the freshly shed skin of a snake, a small amount of life is contained in each and can be harnessed into magical energy without causing great harm to the organism involved.

Some believe this foolish, since more energy can be gathered faster through death, but most find this to be a more responsible means.

Some practitioners have gone so far as to refuse to gather energy from other organisms, using their own life force as the source of their power. Obviously, this is risky, but many travel this path out of a personal moral decision.
