Charms, Part 1 [Magic Theory, Pt. 7]
Through her dreams, the gods revealed unto The Healer the art of storing energy in lifeless vessels. These vessels were called charms, and were used to store magical energy for later use, so that it would not be wasted when it was not needed.
The relative capacity of a charm is only slightly affected by the size of the charm. The more important factor is the charm’s physical composition. The Healer found that charms made from petrified wood were better able to store energy than those made of glass. It occurred to her that objects that had once contained life energy were better at storing life energy than objects that had never lived.
However, many saw that the once-living objects tended to be less durable than others. For this reason many practitioners still use metal, glass, or stone charms instead of bone, feather, or wood, in the hopes that these charms will last longer and be more useful in the long run.
Rare materials such as petrified wood and bone are highly sought after and very expensive.
