Charms, Part 2 [Magic Theory, Pt. 8]
In the first years of magic, when The Healer and her followers were exploring their new art, it was believed that charms could only be used once, then had to be discarded. However, as they became more experienced, the magical practitioners discovered that they could effectively re-charge a charm, or add more energy to an already energised charm. It would seem that, as one’s skill grew, so did the ability to store, retrieve, and manipulate a charm’s energy.
In fact, charms themselves become more useful the more they are used. The act of using and restoring a charm’s energy actually alters the charm, improving its capacitance but weakening its physical structure. Well-worn and ancient charms are highly valuable, but are rare, as they are more prone to damage and unintentional destruction.
Some practitioners look down upon charm use, considering it a waste of time and effort, preferring to use magical energy as soon as it is gathered. While this is less time-consuming, it can be quite inconvenient.
