Charms, Part 3 [Magic Theory, Pt. 9]

The Healer discovered that, with a little education, ordinary people without the time to learn the magical arts could still put magic to use through charms. With charms, they would not need to know how to collect life force on their own, and they could effectively practice simple magic without much training. Simple spells became common knowledge among the masses.

Through this discovery a market arose. The trade of charms became a business to many, allowing magic users to live comfortably by providing a means for simple magic to the common man. The grander the charm, the more potent the spells, the higher the cost. After some time, charms themselves became a form of currency, being traded between folk in exchange for goods and services.

Many magic users looked down upon this practice, seeing their fellow ‘artists’ growing lazy and gluttonous, profiting from the masses. But since a full education in the magical arts took many years and much effort, most people couldn’t afford to learn.
