Zombies!

She had been been bitten. She ripped off her coat and looked at her arm.
“It’s not deep,” Chris said. He knelt down, took her arm and inspected it. “Maybe… it has to be deep to…”
Val wrenched her arm away from him. “Don’t be stupid.” She pulled her pistol from its holster and held it out to him. “There’s one bullet left. Use it, then get the hell out of here.”
“No, Val, I can’t.”
“You have to! You promised!” Val yelled. Her voice echoed around the empty room. “We promised each other,” she said softly.
“But we’ve come so far,” Chris said. “After everything we’ve been through, why did it have to happen now?” He leant in suddenly and kissed her on the lips. “Now that I’m in love with you.”
Val stared at him. “Chris…”
He stood quickly and held out his hand. Val hesitated, then gave him the gun. She shut her eyes. She didn’t want his tears to be the last thing she ever saw.
“I love you too,” she whispered.
The sound of the gunshot echoed across the industrial wasteland. Then there was only the wind.
