Into the third paragraph, this was really quite saddening – I imagine this kind of situation to be quite hard on the brother as well – wanting to see his sister do well like the protective type he seems to be…
GU really is going to have a tough time judging this – pitting the newbies against each other is going to leave some writers out in the cold! MH :)
Umm… not really, no. I thought that whatever school 8th grade is in (elementary, methinks) topped out at 8th grade. 9th grade happens somewhere else (high school?)
Ignoring what I may or may not know about the american educational system, a great story.
Oh right, well where I’m from, Middle School tops off at grade 9 (or, again, ninth grade, depending on your location). I guess it got a little lost in international interpretation.
Typically, elementary school is kindergarten through fifth grade, middle school / Jr. high is 6-8, and high school is 9-12. Not that it really matters too much, but yes it would be difficult for Bryn and her brother to be at the same school. Plus, her brother being a freshman he would be at the bottom of the pecking order. Regardless, it’s nice to meet a new character!
American elementary school ends in eighth grade. Ninth grade, also referred to as freshman year, is the first year of high school. Just to clear that up =] And this challenge takes place in an American school.
That said…YES! A homeschooler! I was homeschooled for a while, I considered making Laura a former homeschooler, but I’m glad I didn’t so that you could. Awesome!
Well I hope to play it out well… seeing as I never got homeschooled. And she’s not odd because she was homeschooled, she was homeschooled because she’s odd. (believe me, she is very odd)
