Agreed! The squirrel was an unexpected addition to this charming piece of work. It made me laugh. Reading this also triggered memories I had long thought of to be lost, only I was the one stealing cookies from the sill! :)

A growling sense of foreboding built in my mind as I read this piece. I was about to leap out of my skin when it turned out to be a squirrel. I wonder if the squirrel is an omen.

Apologies for my lack of response … boy, you go offline for a bit and look what happens?! Thank you all so much for stopping by and reading my little story. I can’t say with certainty that this really happened (the squirrel part) but my Mom did used to cool the cookies on a window sill in our kitchen. And because our apartment was above a store back in Richmond, Indiana we were up the trees some so I suppose the family lore could be true. I’d like to believe it is. : )
