Lost in Translation

This challenge has ended!

This challenge is simple: write a poem/story* in English about anything and publish it. Then copy/paste it into Google Translate, and post the translation as a sequel. Do this at least twice (English and two other languages), going straight from one language to another (don’t go back to English in between.) It would be nice if you posted a comment saying which language it went from/to. The last sequel should be a translation back to English. Then we can see how much of the original work remains. The winner will be whoever has the funniest/strangest translation at the end. (To be fair, this will be determined by a vote.)

Good luck, and happy translating!!

*Prose is fine, but keep in mind the more abstract the original, the more it will change when translated.

Okay, since RoseTone was the only one to vote, I am going to pick the winner…
RoseTone!! Thank you for participating in the voting even though I kind of forgot about it. :) And I really loved your story as well. Congratulations!

  2. Avatar RoseTone ~LoA~

But…. what if I’m the only one to vote?!?

While I absolutely love “Waiting” and “Good News”, I have to give my vote to “Pure Abandon” by the amazing Winslow.

    Good job everyone.

Ooh I agree with Princess Binky Lemontwist… this challenge is so creative! Bummer it’s over. :)

  4. Avatar Princess Binky Lemontwist (LoA)

That sounds like a brilliant idea! Too bad I couldn’t think of anything to enter at the time. Haha!

  5. Avatar Emilou

I was very kindly reminded that this challenge needs a winner!
I said I would decide with a vote, so how does this sound: every person that entered the challenge is allowed one vote (via a comment on this page) for their favorite story (besides their own.) Sound good?

  6. Avatar Tad Winslow

    So much fun!

  7. Avatar Emilou

    Multiple entries are wonderful!

  8. Avatar RoseTone ~LoA~

    Well – that was interesting.

    Are multiple entries allowed?

  9. Avatar punpun

I submitted one, but deleted it because the result was….rather expected, I guess.

  10. Avatar Emilou

    Pyropunk: absolutely!

  11. Avatar Pyropunk 51 (PPP LoA)

May I try to use a previously written haiku?

Some may take issue with your statement, ‘this challenge is simple’, but I’m as excited as you to read the “mad libs” that come of it!

Want to join in the fun? Of course you do!
