Stories

  1. Mute Muse

I used to be filled with all manner of fanciful ideas. My ideas would flow down from my brain into my heart where a warm feeling would rise up to my eyes and make my face glow. Then the energy created by heat would transfer to my elbows where they woul...

  2. Oh No She Didn't!

  5. Let Down the Final Wall

  6. Prey to Misfortune

It was unfortunate that General Hobbs liked liquor so much when on leave and that he didn’t brush his teeth regularly. His gruff countenance was still as leathery as the skin on his face, but as he lay there, white hairs defiantly clinging to the...

  7. Ancient Contraption

My butt had fallen asleep in the chair, that’s how long I’d been watching her tinker with that contraption. Evening light dimmed the inside of the makeshift garage. My stomach growled, but I knew she wouldn’t stop for dinner until she...

  8. Fate, Serendipitous Fate

Jasper and Annalese hurried out to a waiting car, saw Hale and stopped short. “Grab him!” Jasper yelled. Annalese moved to block Hale’s path, while the suited driver came up behind. Hale tried to dodge between the heeled lady and the suited m...

  9. Darker Ne-fairy-ous Deeds

The courtyard was littered with bodies, painted with blood spatters, some with wings still fluttering as the nervous systems were hit with stray spells. Many a white steed lay with mouths agape, throats wide open, while slain black wolves bled, some st...

  10. Ne-fairy-ous Deeds

“Come here, Princess,” his voice sent fear and loathing through her shackled body as the guards roughly shoved her forward to stand beside him on the balcony. She gasped in horror at the courtyard scene below. Two armies, her father’s...

  14. Losing Heavy Baggage At The Airport

A cool breeze blew over us, giving me goosebumps as I waited for him to say more. “Thanks.” “For what?!” I laughed, trying to figure out what I did that was noteworthy. “This. Being here. You.” Did he mean that he si...

  15. Purple Socks

Two ancient oak trees stood resolute at each corner of the property. Today they were girded with yellow caution tape as uniformed men and women trekked back and forth over the manicured lawn from car to house. Though the sirens had long been silenced, ...

  16. Rust Red

The bicycle lay on its side, rust showing through red. It had seen rough usage in its lifetime, but nothing like this. From the mud caked on the fender to the tires bare of any tread in the middle, none of it spoke the real story. Laying on its side, t...

  17. Tortured Soul or Why Therapy Doesn't Work

Shattered soul shards melt into a dark primordial ooze, from whence they first came, slowly sliding together like mercury to seek life anew. A pathetic, desolate body the consistency of boiled pasta winces as the soul begins to fill the space inside. I...

  18. Her Eyes

I had the best of motives, really I did. The sale went smoothly, money weighting my inner jacket pocket, thumping my chest to the beat of my joyful swagger. It was all part of the plan. One last sale, enough money to buy the gift, then with it given, I...

  19. The Place Between Asleep and Awake

In the darkness I dreamed of you Your presence upon my shoulders like a mantle Comforting and warm, sitting near When I woke you were not there The loss of the soft friendship shawl Left cold in the depths of my soul I wondered what you were doing this...

  20. Spinsters

“Well, I suppose I’d better get home and see what trouble those boys have gotten themselves into!” Shannon excused herself from our hour long conversation in the summer breeze my front porch seems to catch. When she first started comi...

  21. I Am Tinkerbell

  22. Born This Way (Mature)

  23. Beastly

It feels fiercely cold at first, a fear that makes your heart pump, but the blood that surges is lava hot and anger takes over. The fangs and claws that emerge, unbidden are sharp and double edged. Cutting deep, the blood that spews forth is bright red...

  24. Lather, Rinse, Repeat

Hot and sticky, the summer night provided no relief from the muggy day. Megan had long since thrown the sheet to the floor in her fitful sleep and woke covered in a thin film of moisture. She sat up, hair falling from her loosened ponytail to quickly c...

  25. Disappointment and Anger Blues

I looked at my young face in the mirror, the face of a murderer. How could I go to jail for this? Then it hits me; I didn’t make her drive. She wanted to. I didn’t help her crash. She was going too fast. I didn’t kill her. I wouldn...
